Allegretto: an author's reinterpretation

Incalmi continues his research work together with the designers, and for 2025 involves Valentina Cameranesi Sgroi in the author's reinterpretation of Maniera, the modular system designed to respond to one of the most current interior design challenges: the temporary nature and seasonality of the installations.

Allegretto is therefore the name of an author's reinterpretation: if Maniera consists of a grid to be dressed at will, Cameranesi Sgroi has worked precisely on how to alter, distort and manipulate the system's coating. Designed for retail, temporary installations, hospitality environments and valuable historical settings, Maniera offers a versatile solution that generates value over time, because it allows you to dress and cover spaces while safeguarding materials from a totally circular perspective. The system is repositionable, remodelable and recyclable. The aluminum structure can integrate different materials, while shelves, hangers and light points can be reconfigured, ensuring maximum functionality.

“Manera is based on an almost engineering concept, and my job was to give it a shape that could enhance its personalization potential,” says Cameranesi Sgroi. “Today it's me who interprets it, but tomorrow it could be another designer, an architect. Anyone can decide how to go to work on the grid, as if it were a staff on which everyone can write their music.” The result is a decorative wall obtained starting from the Maniera system, here dressed in three-dimensional elements, all different, in enameled copper, which explore the theme of color, central to the project, as well as the idea of imperfection and contrast, always present in Cameranesi Sgroi's personal projects.

Completing the enameled copper wall are small glass objects and other materials — a vase, a fake lipstick, a sample book, a minimal bed — with which Cameranesi Sgroi amplifies the dimension of the story, following an approach that distinguishes his work as a set designer. The project thus becomes, more than an object, a minimal environment, which allows us to imagine the stories that have occurred or will take place in this space — “a room-refuge set up in an emblematic context, a physical and enveloping dimension but also a mental space of pure abstraction”, according to Annalisa Rosso, design expert and curator.

Allegretto premiered at the EDIT Naples design fair, from 10 to 12 October 2025.
